1. Geographical location
An Thach is a plain commune located in the Northeast of Tuy An district, 3km from the district center. The total natural area of the commune is 1108.44ha, divided into 05 hamlets.
+ East: Bordering An Ninh Tay commune and An Ninh Dong commune;
+ West: Bordering Chi Thanh town;
+ South: Bordering An Cu commune;
+ North: Bordering An Dan commune.
The commune was formed when Phu Yen land was established in the 17th century.
2. Population
An Thach commune has a population of 5225 people /1715 households. More than 85% of the population lives mainly on agriculture. An Thach is a religiously specific commune with 4 religions: Catholicism, Buddhism, Cao Dai and Protestantism. Religious people accounts for 60.41% of the population. In the commune, there are 08 places of worship (04 churches and 04 pagodas). People always live a good life and follow their religions.
3. Terrain characteristics
An Thach commune is in the lower reaches of the Ky Lo River. Its typical terrain is a narrow plain and small mountains, surrounded by two river branches, Tam Giang River and Ha Yen River originating from Cai River - Ngan Son.
The plain is divided into small fields such as Dong Bau, Go Da, Cau Ky, Trai, Chet, Go Dai, Go Ren, Lang Thuong, Lang Ha, Ma Duong.
The mountainous terrain stretches across hamlets such as A Mang mountain in Quang Duc and Hoi Tin hamlets, Mot mountain in Ha Yen hamlet, Mai Nha mountain in Phu Thinh hamlet.
With such terrain and soil, it creates many water sources that can be exploited to develop agricultural production. This type of terrain is suitable for cultivating rice, crops, short-term industrial crops, and aquaculture in the commune.
4. Climate and weather conditions.
An Thach commune belongs to the South Central Coast, in the tropical monsoon climate zone with the following main typical climatic factors:
- Temperature regime: The average annual temperature is about 26.6oC - 27.7oC, the hot season is affected by the southwest wind, the absolute high temperature is up to 29.5oC. In the cold season, when there is the Northeast monsoon, the average temperature drops to 21oC (the absolute lowest is 18.5oC)
- Rain regime: An Thach has an average annual rainfall of 2,104mm, with 131 rainy days. The climate is divided into 2 distinct seasons:
+ The dry season lasts from January to August. The hot and dry climate is affected by the southwest wind. There is little rain, the rainfall in this season accounts for 20-30% of the annual rainfall.
+ The rainy season lasts from September to December, often affected by the Northeast monsoon with rain. It has low temperature and it is cool. The rainfall during the season accounts for 70-80% of the annual rainfall.
5. Hydrology
There is a relatively evenly distributed network of rivers and streams. This is a favorable condition for exploiting water resources for agricultural production, building irrigation works to serve the development of economic sectors and people's needs.
6. Land resources
Land resources in An Thach commune mainly include 02 main soil groups:
Gray soil group: Gray soil is formed on the basis of acid magma and sandstone. This soil group accounts for about 40% of the total natural land area.
Alluvial soil group: The remaining area is alluvial soil in low-lying areas along rivers and streams. Alluvial soil is suitable for growing rice, corn, fruit trees, short-term industrial crops, especially 02-crop rice with an area of 244.34 ha.
7. Water resources
An Thach commune is surrounded by 02 branches of Ngan Son river, which belongs to Ky Lo river. They are Ha Yen river and Tam Giang river. These 02 branches of the river play an important role in the economic and cultural life of the people in the commune such as: providing water for daily life, agricultural production and aquaculture. In addition, they also contribute to beautifying the landscape and regulating the climate in the commune.
